Description | The Formula Committee was first formed in June 1921 with the responsibility for the improvement of fomulae, processes and packaging within the manufacturing units of Boots Pure Drug Company. The Committee was also responsible for the investigation of new ideas and the review of limited selling items, and packaging to be issued to the Manufacturing Department. Discussions include consideration of feedback received from customers and branch managers. The committee was a sub-committee of the Manufacturing Executive under W C Church. The first ordinary meeting was held on 12 July 1921. Meetings were held every three to seven days, with emergency meetings in the interim. The first Chairman of the Committee was John Lawson, with most of the other members being qualified pharmacists, including E S Waring, and G I Akeroyd. The Formulation Committee was reorganised as the Emergency Formula Committee at the outbreak of World War Two. A further reconstruction of the Formula Committee took place in July 1943, with the Formula Sub-Committee which acted in a planning capacity. Initially the Committee focused on war-time concerns, looking to establish close links with departments such as the Fine Chemical department going forward. The minutes are in bound volumes. |
