ActivityHarold Holthouse was born on 23rd October 1862, He joined the company in October 1885, appointed by Jesse Boot to join the Goose Gate store with specific responsibility for developing the manufacturing side of the business. After a couple of years Jesse moved Holthouse out of the back rooms at Goosegate and into his first warehouse and factory which consisted of three rooms in Elliot’s lace-thread doubling factory in Island Street in Nottingham. Just a few years later, Boots took over the entire factory. Authority in the factory was divided between Holthouse, who looked after the wet drugs and medicines, and Dr Bowis, who looked after pharmaceuticals and toiletries. The two however often disagreed.

After the war Holthouse was given responsibility for the manaufacturing side of the business. When Jesse sold the Boots company to the American Louis Liggett in 1920, Holthouse was one of the individuals invited over to America. He toured Liggett's plants in Boston and St Louis to study their ideas on production methods.

Holthouse sat on the Committee of the Boots Athletic Club and was President of the local Hockey Association as well as Chairman of the Welfare Council. He was He retired on 31st December 1931 after over 46 years of service.

Holthouse died on January 28th 1955 at the age of ninety-two.
