Activity | H R Gillespie was born in Nottingham on 1st November 1880 and educated locally. His first employment was with Messrs. Sands and Flinders, chartered accountants. Having qualified as a chartered accountant, he joined Boots in July 1910 and was appointed Chief Accountant. In 1921 he was elected to the Board of Directors. Throughout his time with Boots he played an important role in the establishment of the General Pensions Fund, he was Treasurer of the Chemists' Pension Fund and Chairman of the Boots Employees' Savings Fund. On the 26th April 1935 Gillespie was elected President of the Boots Men's Institute and was also Vice President of the Men's Athletic Club. Mr Gillespie passed away suddenly on the 9th August 1936, and the Boots offices were closed down so staff could attend the funeral. |
