ActivityMargery Boot was born on 27th February 1892, the second daughter of Jesse and Florence Boot. She attended the Rodean School in Surrey, however the exact years that she attended are unknown. Margery married Alexander McArthur Holman (Max) on the 18th January 1921 at the Church of St John the Evangelist, City of Westminster. Together they had three children John Francis, Christopher Boot and David McArthur. During the First World War Margery established a refreshment centre for sick and injured soldiers in northern France. She was also a member of the Moral Re-Armament Movement, and joined the Red Cross in 1915, and established a kitchen and cafe at one of the principle railway junctions in northern France. In recognition for her valiant support she was awarded a medal of honour by the French President.
Margery and her husband Max opened the Dedisham Convalescent Nursery School in 1929, along with the Duchess of Norfolk she took on the role of President, and played an active role in the day to day running of the school. The school was run for ‘the benefit of delicate children up to seven years of age, who could not otherwise have a long period in country surroundings and have a chance of being restored to normal health’. She was also a follower of the Oxford Group/Moral Rearmament, an international religious movement. Margery died on 13th August 1987.
