| Administrative History | The company was created through the combination of Walgreens and Alliance Boots on 31st December 2014, bringing together two leading companies to form the first global pharmacy-led, health and wellbeing enterprise. The company was formed under the chairmanship of Jim Skinner and with Stefano Pessina as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman. The company was structured into 3 divisions, Retail Pharmacy USA, Retail Pharmacy International and Pharmaceutical Wholesale. The company also created a number of global cross divisional functions including Global Brands and a Global Pharmacy Market Access group. It was listed on the US NASDAQ stock exchange and incorporated in Delaware. In June 2016 Alex Gourlay and Ornella Barra became Co-Chief Operating Officers.
On 2nd June 2021, the Alliance Healthcare businesses were sold to AmerisourceBergen.
Walgreens Boots Alliance is the largest retail pharmacy, health and daily living destination across the USA and Europe. The company's portfolio of product brands includes No7, Botanics, Liz Earle, Soap & Glory and Sleek MakeUp, Almus and YourGoodSkin.
