Administrative HistoryAlliance Healthcare was formed as a division with Alliance Boots in 2007, which re-branded the Pharmaceutical Wholesale Division's principal businesses in each country under this brand name. The business provides wholesale delivery services to pharmacists, membership services under the Alphega Pharmacy brand, Almus branded generic pharmaceuticals and Alvita branded healthcare products.

Alliance Healthcare began in 1938 when Ernest Skues founded UniChem, a London based cooperative that was financed and managed by local independent pharmacists, to serve independent pharmacies. It began with just 100 members.

In 1945 the first Service Centre opened in Tooting, London and in 1947 a van service was introduced. In the following years service centres opened in Nuneaton in 1960, and Leeds in 1964. In 1969 the business converted into a Friendly Society (a Co-op). Throughout the 1970s to 1990s service centres opened in Swansea, Exeter, Hinckley, Letchworth, South Normanton and Newcastle.

In 1991 the Moss Group, a UK retail pharmacy chain was acquired. Unichem merged with the Alliance Sante group in 1997 and became Alliance Unichem Plc. In 2005 Alliance UniChem acquires Alloga, as well as Spanish farmaceutical wholesaler Farmacen, and the Bairds Chemist retail business in Northen Ireland. In 2006 Alliance Unichem merges with Boots to become Alliance Boots, by 2009 it rebrands to Alliance Healthcare. A service centre in Nottingham opened in 2011. In 2008 the division acquired Central Homecare in the UK which provided homecare services to patients in the UK.

In 2012 Alliance Healthcare announces strategic partnership with Wallgreens and by 2014 Walgreens Boots Alliance completes merger and forms the world's first global pharmacy-led, health and well-being enterprise.

The company now has 1940 vehicles serving communities and has evolved to become one of the UK's leading pharmaceutical wholesaler and distributor.
