Administrative HistoryBoots Contract Manufacturing (BCM) was formed in 1991 following the restructuring of the Pharmaceutical Division into three businesses: Boots Healthcare International, Boots Pharmaceuticals and BCM, which was created to serve the cosmetics, personal care and pharmaceuticals businesses, as well as expanding a third party customer base and producing special prescription medicinces for individual use. BCM was one of the three largest manufacturers in Europe at the time of its creation, with production plants at Beeston in Nottingham and Airdrie in Scotland comprising of five factories and one major development laboratory.

BCM acquired two cosmetics companies in France and Germany from Croda International PLC, in December 1995. Both companies manufactured colour cosmetics and the French company also produced toiletries. In March 1997 BCM acquired Roval, a leading manufacturer of own brand products in France.

In February 2003 the company announced the closure of the Airdrie site, and after a two-year period the site closed permanently in February 2005.

In 2006 the Boots Group merged with Alliance UniChem to form Alliance Boots, an international pharmacy-led health and beauty group.

On 1st April 2009 BCM became a stand-alone business within Alliance Boots. A new BCM Specials Laboratory was opened in D10 in 2010.

In 2012 Walgreens and Alliance Boots form strategic partnership to create the first global pharmacy-led, health and wellbeing enterprise. On 31 December 2014, Walgreens Boots Alliance was formed. BCM became part of the cross-divisional function, Global Brands in 2015.

In 2017 BCM became part of Fareva, one of the world’s leading subcontractors in the Industrial and Household, Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals fields.
